Have you ever noticed how animals just seem to know what they need to heal? They don’t rush it, they don’t push it, they simply lean into the process, whether that’s curling up in the sun, resting in a safe place, or simply taking time to grieve a loss. I think we could all learn a thing or two from them. Take a wounded bird, for example. It doesn’t try to keep flying through the pain. No, it rests. It listens to its body, and only when it’s ready, it spreads its wings again. We, as humans, often forget that healing isn’t a race. We think we should “push through” everything, keep busy, keep going, but nature shows us that true healing is about being kind to yourself, allowing space for what hurts, and trusting that time will mend what’s broken.
Then there’s the way animals show up for each other. Watch a group of elephants—when one is sick or injured, the others rally around it. They don’t judge, they don’t rush the healing process, they just stay close, offering comfort and presence. Imagine how different our own healing journeys would be if we gave each other that kind of unconditional support. It’s a reminder that healing isn’t just an individual thing, it’s something we do together, as a community.
Sometimes, the best medicine is simply being there for someone, holding space for their pain without rushing the process. Animals don’t judge their own healing; maybe we should take a page from their playbook.
