Dear Bernie-
I am hopeful that you remember me. I am the director of therapeutic recreation at The Summit at Plantsville. I wanted to tell you about my personal experience this summer of yearly mammogram, ultrasound, MRI, biopsy, and mastectomy. Today I went to the surgeon for my final visit. She told me she has never seen anyone recover from a mastectomy as quickly as I have.
The universe manifested so many unbelievable and wonderful things for me. People from every religion prayed for me. To be honest this was one of the most positive experiences of my life and have the privilege of seeing the world in a very different light.
Today I am cancer free, I was asked my surgeon to speak at a breast cancer event and told her to feel free to share my phone number with any of her patients.
So why I am I telling you all of this… it is because you were a very big part of my recovery. In addition to having the honor of meeting you and hearing you speak, I have read and listened to your books over and over again, and I have taken your advice when working with residents and families with cancer and other difficult diagnoses, and am forever telling people to ‘google’ you.
When I was first diagnosed, the thought WWBS (what would Bernie say) got me through many a difficult moments. I wanted you to know that you will always be an inspiration to me and that I am very grateful for you and for all that you I have learned from you. With love!
