All healing is essentially the release from fear.
~ A Course in Miracles
The next time you dream of a monster chasing you, turn, confront the monster, and watch what happens. Once you have dealt with the fear, the dream will stop. The same is true in our lives; we must face our fears in order to heal them.
Our brain is wired so that fear can protect us from life-threatening situations and help us react quickly. If you see a rattlesnake before you, your brain will bypass conscious evaluation of the danger and make you freeze so that the snake is not attracted by your motion.
But what happens if you think every stick is a poisonous snake? You are going to get nowhere. Abnormal fear can paralyze us. We must face our monsters and work out things that can be done to help us through the fear.
Music can soothe, heal, and relax us. Visualization and meditation can help reprogram the system. Physical activity produces natural antidepressants that can help us feel better. Create a program that works for you and will help resolve your fear and tension.
The following quote by Dr. Robert Anthony offers good advice for tackling your fears:
“Overcoming fear and worry can be accomplished by living a day at a time or even a moment at a time. Your worries will be cut down to nothing.”
Peace,
Bernie
