It is fatal to be a man or woman pure and simple:one must be a woman manly, or a man womanly.
~ Virginia Woolf
Anima and Animus, female and male — why? Why not one sex with the ability to divide as a means of reproducing? Well, it wouldn’t be as much fun, and comedians would have no material! Aside from that, I think there are other reasons. We need the balance to be complete, to understand ourselves, and to have much greater potential.
I see those who limit themselves to the “masculine” or “feminine” role only as missing out on a great deal in their lives. I don’t mean your appearance as a male or female, but about developing as a person and being open to a wide range of emotions and abilities.
By encompassing both male and female, we are free to feel, see, and do things we never would have attempted otherwise. Look at the world and see the courage of women who do not limit themselves and are willing to compete with men. Look at the men who are not afraid to do the things that women are known for. They are willing to be their whole self and live a more fulfilled life. When we restrict each other in business, voting, and family and gender roles, we limit our full potential.
Free yourself to become a whole person with a complete androgynous personality.
Peace,
~ Bernie
